DrumsForCures :: DRUMSTRONG was founded in 2006 to avail traditional, integrative and supplemental healing resources in support of cancer survivorship, education and research. We quickly expanded our services to include supporting health and humanitarian needs through facilitated interactive rhythm sessions in hospitals, clinics and community centers globally.

When Ukraine was invaded again by russia in 2022, DRUMSTRONG responded…
We launched the ‘Rhythm Aid Projects’— employing Ukrainian facilitators and therapists to bring uplifting, interactive rhythm sessions to Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv … the country’s largest public health facility and one of the world’s foremost pediatric oncology centers
…to help defuse the trauma.
The Fear. Pain. Sadness. Angst. Anger. Confusion.
In war. In illness.
In Childhood.

Ми започаткували ініціативу «Rhythm Aid Projects» — залучивши українських фасилітаторів і терапевтів, щоб проводити надихаючі, інтерактивні ритмічні сесії в дитячій лікарні «Охматдит» у Києві — найбільшому державному медичному закладі країни та одному з провідних світових центрів дитячої онкології.
Щоб допомогти розрядити травму.
Страх. Біль. Смуток. Тривогу. Гнів. Розгубленість.
У війні.
У хворобі.
У дитинстві.
With the welcoming embrace of the hospital’s former CEO and Director, Dr. Volodymyr Zhovnir, we coordinated regular facilitated interactive rhythm events at Okhmatdyt, and at zero expense to the center, our team launched the ‘Rhythm Aid Projects’ Ukraine program.
Завдяки щирій підтримці колишнього генерального директора та керівника лікарні, д-ра Володимира Жовніра, ми організували регулярні фасилітовані інтерактивні ритмічні події в «Охматдиті». Без жодних витрат для медичного закладу наша команда запустила програму «Rhythm Aid Projects» в Україні.
But on July 8th, 2024…
russia’s putin targeted this vibrant place of healing and hope with direct hit missiles –
— — silenced in an instant.
Але 8 липня 2024 року…
путінська росія завдала прямого ракетного удару по цьому живому осередку зцілення й надії
— — і в одну мить усе стихло.
Heroic Staff murdered, Our Children, our Drummers buried in rubble and injured — quite literally shell shocked
Героїчний персонал — убитий. Наші діти, наші барабанщики — під завалами, поранені.
— буквально приголомшені вибухами.
Children in active treatment were immediately transferred to regional hospitals.
And we followed.
What began at Ohmatdyt —— quickly grew. The impact was undeniable.
Дітей, які проходили активне лікування, негайно перевели до регіональних лікарень.
І ми рушили за ними.
Те, що почалося в «Охматдиті», — швидко розрослося. Вплив був незаперечний.
Today, DRUMSTRONG rhythm therapy sessions support multiple children’s hospitals, orphanages, military rehab and refugee centers, and the recovery, reintegration and un-indoctrination of children kidnapped by russia…
And we continue to grow — as do the needs.

Our sessions provide a space where the children, parents, and staff take Back control from the chaos, give people a moment to re-connect,
to breathe,
to unload,
to feel in control again.
and laugh – a lot!

Наші сесії — це простір, де діти, батьки й медперсонал повертають контроль над хаосом.
Це мить, щоб знову відчути зв’язок,
щоб видихнути,
скинути тягар,

They’re not just banging drums. They’re letting go.
Expressing themselves, engaging in fun rhythmic activities,
They’re telling stories without words.
They feel part of, and supported by the group.

Individually and collectively creating unique in-the-moment “songs”,
they take power over the sounds (the sounds don’t take power over them) and we all play together.
Staff and parents witness and share long-absent smiles.

It’s also an invitation to be “loud”, even raucous, which changes the dynamic of an otherwise quiet, sterile, scary environment and maybe allows one to forget for a moment why you’re there…

And Yes — many of our sessions Are held in bomb shelters.
but This IS where Healing takes root.
This is where Play is Power.
Where Music is Medicine.

The hospitals (and families) recognize the immediate benefits. We continue to expand and have established regular sessions for patients, families and staff.
The immediate needs are profound and at emergency levels.

We don’t know how the war will ultimately affect the children’s future but we do know that these sessions make a sound impact and lesson the severity of the immediate environment.
